Mary Jane Gebhart

Mary Jane Gebhart, 78, of Aviston, died Monday, January 14, 2019 at Breese Nursing Home. She was born September 25, 1940 in Aviston, IL, the daughter of Joseph and Bertha, nee Poettker, Litteken. She married Joseph A. Gebhart on August 25, 1959 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston and he preceded her in death on June 15, 2016.

She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Gebhart of Chesterfield, MO; three sons, Jeffery Gebhart and Darryl Gebhart both of Trenton, and Patrick (Crystal) Gebhart of Carlyle; a grandson, Carson Joseph Richter; two step-grandchildren, Brock and Jordan Kleiboeker; a sister, Judy (Jim) Boehler of Aviston; a brother, Leo (Pat) Litteken of Albers; two sisters-in-law, Dolores Ruess and Bonny Litteken; and she is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Albin and Mary Gebhart; five sisters, Esther Trame, Laura Kapp, Irene Holtgrave, Ruth Kapp, and Bertha Thole; six brothers, Chester Litteken, Leonard Litteken, Joseph Litteken, Stanley Litteken, Maurice Litteken, and Jerome Litteken; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Carl Ruess, Virgil & Viola Hagen, Eugene Trame, Edgar Kapp, Steve Holtgrave, Clarence Kapp, Rose Litteken, Dolores Litteken, Andy Thole, Ray Haukap, and Marcel Heimann.

Mrs. Gebhart was a homemaker and helped her husband on the family farm. She was a member of St. Francis Parish and Altar Sodality, the St. Francis choir, and a member of the Clinton County Farm Bureau. Mary Jane enjoyed quilting and spending time with her grandson.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 18, 2019 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston with Rev. Dan Friedman officiating. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Aviston.

Friends may call from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2019 and again from 8:30 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. Friday, January 18, 2019 at Nordike Funeral Home in Aviston.

Memorials may be made to St. Francis Parish or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be received at the funeral home.
