Maurice T. Brokering, 98, of New Baden, died Thursday, November 26, 2020 at St. Paul’s Senior Community in Belleville. He was born February 10, 1922 in Shelbyville, IN, the son of Charles and Irene (Knight) Brokering. He married Dolores M. Stempel on August 23, 1947 in Nashville, IL and she preceded him in death on March 19, 2009.
He is survived by one son, Larry (Kathy) Brokering; two grandchildren, Kristi (Randy) Emmons and Michael (Sarah) Brokering; ten great-grandchildren, Tyler and Logan Brokering, Brooklyn, Nathan, Madison, Kaitlyn, Kelly, Luke, and Adam Emmons, and Natalie (Chris) Stosberg; one sister-in-law, Fran Stempel; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leo and Josephine (Kuper) Stempel; three brothers, Kenneth, Edison, and Lewis Brokering; one sister, Joan B. Ray; three sisters-in-law, Caroline, Izetta, and Pauline Brokering; and two brothers-in-law, Richard and Cletus Stempel.
Mr. Brokering was an Aircraft Mechanic at Scott Air Force Base. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 321 in New Baden. Maurice was a devoted, loving husband, father, and grandfather. His life revolved around his family. He was affectionately known as “Pop.” He loved to ride his bicycle around New Baden. His enthusiasm for bicycling began in 1939 when he was a member of a team that broke a bicycling marathon record.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 321 and will be received at Nordike Funeral Home, 15 East Hanover St., New Baden, IL 62265, who is serving the family.
