Thelma Medcalf, 92, of New Baden, died Sunday, May 17, 2015 at her home in New Baden. She was born May 23, 1922 in Lincoln City, IN, daughter of Clarence R. and Mary M. (Staten) Woods. She married Theodore L. “Ted” Medcalf on March 22, 1942 in Lincoln City, IN and he preceded her in death on September 19, 2011. Thelma is survived by her daughter, Phyllis (Larry) Satterfield of New Baden; two grandchildren, Jami Mariah (Jeff) Brokering of O’Fallon and Jason Todd (Casey) Satterfield of Belleville; four great-grandchildren, Reid Carter Brokering, Emmy Paige Brokering, Cecelia Faye Satterfield, and Alexander Lane Satterfield; a sister, Susan Bracken of Tulsa, OK; and many loving and caring nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses, Helen & Ben Hevron, John & Nelda Woods, George Woods, Joe & Wilma Woods, and Florence & Vic Smith; and a brother-in-law, Ted Bracken. Mrs. Medcalf was a homemaker. She was a member of the New Baden Lions and a faithful friend of the Trenton First United Methodist Church. Thelma enjoyed small town living in New Baden and took pride in supporting her daughter and grandchildren’s school activities as they grew up. Her greatest joy was taking care of her family. Funeral Services will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at the Trenton First United Methodist Church in Trenton with Pastor Mike Rucker officiating. Burial will be on Thursday at Old Pigeon Cemetery in Lincoln City, IN. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at the Trenton First United Methodist Church in Trenton. Memorials may be made to Trenton First United Methodist Church, Old Pigeon Cemetery, or the New Baden Park and will be received at the church or Hempen-Nordike Funeral Home, 15 E. Hanover, New Baden, IL 62265 who is serving the family.
