Linus F. Meier, 90, of Albers, died Monday, November 10, 2014 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese. He was born September 7, 1924 in Albers, son of Eugene and Mary (Heckenkemper) Meier. He married Bernadine E. Buss September 10, 1952 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lively Grove and she survives in Albers. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Geraldine (Edward) Haukap of Aviston, David (Linda) Meier of Nashville, Dennis (Peggy) Meier of Aviston, Jeanette Thole of Orlando, FL, Norman (Mary Pat) Meier of Shakopee, MN, Joan Meier of St. Louis, MO, and Paul (Lori) Meier of Trenton; 16 grandchildren, Krista (Keno) Davis, Adam (Lauren) Haukap, Erica (David) Blessing, Brian and Kristen Thole, Jorden, Jared, Christopher, Amber, Garrett, Logan, Joseph, Jacob, Jared, Dustin, and Riley Meier; five great-grandchildren, Brady and Mara Davis, Avery & Ari Haukap, and Edith Blessing; two sisters, Lucinda Scheiper of St. Libory and Esther Dierkes of Germantown; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann & Jerome Heckenkemper of New Baden, Leo & Mary Ellen Buss of Breese, and Norbert Buss of Lively Grove. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter in infancy, Kathleen Meier; two sisters, Antoinette Sommer and Dolores Zurliene; a brother, Gerald Meier; and brothers-in-law& sisters-in, law, Lawrence Sommer, Robert Zurliene, Leo Scheiper, Gregory & Cecilia Buss, Dorothy Buss, and Eugene Dierkes. Mr. Meier was a farm equipment mechanic and also worked in maintenance and custodial at Albers Elementary School. Linus was a member of St. Bernard Parish and Holy Name, a former member of the Breese and Bartelso Knights of Columbus, and a charter member of the Albers Knights of Columbus. He was the first Albers town board trustee and also served on multiple church committees. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 14, 2014 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Albers with Rev. Jack Joyce and Deacon Glenn Netemeyer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Albers. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, November 13, 2014 and from 9 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. Friday, November 14, 2014 at Hempen-Nordike Funeral Home in Albers. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made for Masses and will be received at the funeral home.
