Ruth W. Agne Meyer, 88 of New Baden and formerly of Belleville, died Friday, August 13, 2010 at her home. She was born March 10, 1922 in Engelmann Twp., IL, daughter of William and Emily (Schmitz) Graul. She married Irvin C. Agne on August 26, 1945 at Zion Lutheran Church in Belleville and he preceded her in death on May 30, 1970. She then married Amos Meyer on October 25, 1980 at Zion Lutheran Church in Belleville and he preceded her in death on July 2, 1990.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia (Ronald) Biver of Trenton; three grandchildren, Stacy (Kirk) Wellen of Trenton, Paul (Rhonda) Biver of Aviston and Penny (Mike) Leith of Trenton; four great-grandchildren, Luke and Joey Biver and Malorie & Carter Wellen; a sister, Helen Agne of Belleville; she is also survived by nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husbands and her parents she was preceded in death by three sisters, Erna Schanz, Elvira Funk and Esther Richter; and also three brothers and one sister in infancy.
Before her retirement Mrs. Meyer was a clerk for JC Penny in downtown Belleville. She was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ and Women’s Guild in New Baden, the New Baden Senior Citizens, and the Women of the Moose in Belleville.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at Zion United Church of Christ in New Baden with Rev. Gretchen Sterrett officiating. Following a lunch at the church, burial will follow at Valhalla Gardens of Memory in Belleville.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, August 16, 2010 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden.
The New Baden Senior Citizens will visit the funeral home at 5 p.m. on Monday.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Zion United Church of Christ and will be received at the funeral home.
