Meyer, Sylvia

Sylvia Meyer, 98, of Breese, died Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Carlyle Healthcare Center in Carlyle. She was born March 11, 1910 in Breese daughter of August and Johanna (Helling) Meyer. She is survived by her goddaughter, Margaret Timmermann of Trenton and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Alma Meyer and five siblings in infancy. Miss Meyer was a graduate of McKendree College in Lebanon. She began her teaching career in a country schoolhouse in Little Prairie. She later taught in Beckemeyer and Breese and retired in 1971. She was a lifetime member of St. John United Church of Christ in Breese, a member the Women’s Fellowship at the church and she taught Sunday School at the church. She was also a member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association, the Clinton County Retired Teachers, and an honorary member of the St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2008 at St. John United Church of Christ in Breese with Rev. Lisa Hart officiating. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Breese. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2008 at St. John United Church of Christ in Breese. Memorials may be made to St. John United Church of Christ or Heartland Hospice and will be received at the funeral home.
