Michael John Hellmann, 69, of Trenton, died Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Cedarhurst of Breese. He was born October 20, 1954 in Dubuque, IA, the son of James and Marlene, nee Kenkel, Hellmann. He married Monica Ann Schomaker October 6, 1984 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden and she survives in Trenton.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Matthew (Nicole) Hellmann and Elizabeth (Ben) Crawford; grandchildren, Owen & Harris Hellmann, and Lucas, Olivia, & Jack Crawford; his siblings, Steve (Terri) Hellmann, Sue (John) Szoke, Patrick Hellmann, and Teresa (Dan) Spitze; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Barb (Tom) Wolfslau, John (Nancy) Schomaker, and Rich Schomaker; he is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Catherine Hellmann, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herman & Sophie Schomaker; sisters-in-law, Doris Hellmann and Shelly Schomaker; and nieces, Jessica Faczak and Shannon Hellmann.
Mr. Hellmann worked as a CFO for Hospice of Southern Illinois and was also a licensed CPA. He was a member of St. George Parish where he served as Eucharistic Minister; the Knights of Columbus, and the AICPA and IACPA societies. Family meant everything to him and enjoyed spending time with them. He could always be found attending one of his kids' sporting events or sitting in the dugout keeping score at a baseball game. Later in life he enjoyed playing checkers and cards with his grandchildren.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. George Zieba officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden.
Visitation will be held Monday, April 29, 2024 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and again on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden.
Memorials may be made to St. George Parish or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be received at the funeral home.
