Mildred Edna “Millie” Bann (nee Cowell, Davis), age 88 of New Baden, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2017, in New Baden. She was born in Red Bud, Illinois, on April 14, 1929, the daughter of Louis J. and Adeline (Purtle) Cowell. Millie married Dwight Davis, and he preceded her in death. She later married J.W. “Bill” Bann, Jr., and he also preceded her in death.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her mothers and fathers-in-law James W. and Delores A. (Kassebaum) Bann, Sr., and Ralph and Ruth Davis; her son, James D. “Jimmy” Davis; a brother, Arnold Cowell; sisters-in-law Corrine, Donna, Ruth Ellen, Betty, and Virla Bann, Gloria Hebenstreit, Marilyn Sachs, Susanne Chappel, and Aurelia “Ree” Cowell; brothers-in-law, Elmer “Ike” Brown, Joseph Hebenstreit, Paul, Ralph, and Robert Bann, Gerald Chappel, and LaVergne Mueth; nephews, Bob and Rick Bann; and her niece, Debbie Hebenstreit.
Millie is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Thomas) Pollmann of New Baden; a sister, Alberta Brown of St. Louis; two brothers, Victor Cowell of St. Louis and Roger (Marlene) Cowell of Red Bud; and her in-laws, Lucille Bann and Carl Bann of New Baden, Jim (Geri) Bann of Earlville, Illinois, Beverly Cowell of Red Bud, and Tommy Mueth. Millie is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Bann was a member of St. George Catholic Church in New Baden as well as the New Baden and Red Bud American Legion Women’s Auxiliaries. Millie retired in the 1980s from the American Legion in New Baden after many years, and she took great pride in the appearance of her home, yard, garden, and Tom and Patricia.
Visitation for Mildred will be held Saturday, July 8, 2017, from 8:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden. A rosary service will start at 8:30 a.m., and The New Baden Legion Auxiliary will have a prayer service at 9:00 a.m.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Gene Neff officiating. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden.
Memorials are suggested to St. George Church or to the charity of the donor’s choice and will be received at church or at Nordike Funeral Home, 15 East Hanover Street, New Baden, Illinois 62265.
She will miss her many friends and neighbors and felt truly blessed by everyone’s friendship and caring.
