Mildred Elizabeth Buenemeyer, age 91, of Carlyle, IL died Sunday August 28, 2011 at Carlyle Healthcare Center. She was born June 3, 1920 at the Clinton County Farm, two miles north of Carlyle, the daughter of Wallace A. and Jessie I. (Ringer) Rainey. She Married Cyril “Whitey” Buenemeyer on December 4, 1943 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Carlyle. Cyril preceded her in death on May 12, 1978.
In addition to her husband and parents Mildred was preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph A Buenemeyer, brothers Walter and Floyd Rainey, a sister: Myra Babb Godell; a sister-in-law Bertha Kircher Rainey; a brother-in-law Vernon Mahlandt and nephew Gregory Mahlandt.
Surviving are her three girls, daughters of Floyd and Bertha: Judith Rainey Walker and husband Robert of Oak Ridge, TN; Mary Rainey Gehrs and husband Bill of Okawville, IL and Carolyn Rainey Dixon of St. Louis, MO. Mrs. Buenemeyer is also survived by a sister Lila Mahlandt and a brother Ralph Rainey, and a sister-in-law Frieda of Carlyle. As well as nephews and nieces, David Babb and wife Norma of Indianapolis, IN, Albert Babb and wife Martha of West Frankfort, IL; Marilyn Rainey Mason of Walnut Creek, CA; Phyllis Rainey Albat and husband Eddie of Carlyle, IL; Gary Rainey and wife Kim of McKinney, TX; Bonita Mahlandt Worth and husband Bob of St. Louis, MO; Jennifer Mahlandt Buchholz and husband Terry of St. Louis, MO; Mildred was also blessed with many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Except for a few years Mildred was a life long resident of Carlyle where she and her husband Cyril for many years of their early married life operated an apartment house on Methodist Street. Mildred was also employed at the Carlyle Shoe Factory. She retired in 1982 after four decades of dedication to her job. After retirement she filled her time with having frequent garage sales from her building at the corner of Rt 50 and 17th street, working with paints and stenciling, caring for numerous pets and especially spending time with her family and friends sharing stories of the “good old days”
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church in Carlyle at 11 a.m. on Tuesday August 30, 2011 with Fr. George Mauck officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Carlyle.
Friends may visit with family from 9 until 11am on Tuesday August 30, 2011 at
St. Mary Church in Carlyle.
Memorials may be made in Mildred memory to St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle and will be received at Frerker Funeral Home which is handling the arrangements.
