Jonathan L. Miller, 82, of New Baden, died Thursday, April 17, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville, IL. He was born February 10, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA, son of Jack and Dorothy (Guignion) Miller. He married Norma J. Friederich on February 24, 1958 in Springfield, IL and she survives in New Baden, IL. In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Sheri Sauthoff of Denver, CO, Kathie Miller and Jonna Miller both of Phoenix, AZ, Matthew Miller of New Baden, IL, Michael (Beth) Miller of Dothan, AL, and Jack (fiancée, Elizabeth Benish) of Cedar Hill, MO; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Beverly Litwin of McLean, VA; a brother, Jerry Miller of Biloxi, MS; his mother-in-law, Catherine Friederich of New Baden, IL; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bob Montgomery of South Hampton, PA; Marie Miller of Lima, OH, Marva Daters of DuQuoin, IL, James Friederich of New Baden, IL, and Robert & Tina Friederich of Fairview Heights, IL; he is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Ralph Sauthoff; a sister, Donna Montgomery; a brother, Soloman Miller; his father-in-law, Earl “Mickey” Friederich; a sister-in-law, Gussie Miller; and a brother-in-law, Bill Daters. Mr. Miller was a field engineer for Emerson Electric then went on to work for McLean Trucking as a truck driver before retiring and then working for the Mascoutah School District as a bus driver for 8 years. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of Faith Baptist Church in Belleville, IL. Jonathan enjoyed woodworking and working in his yard. All services are private. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Clinton County Relay for Life and will be received at Hempen Funeral Home, 15 E. Hanover, New Baden, IL 62265 who is in charge of arrangements.
