Robert D. Mondt, 65, of Aviston, died Saturday, December 25, 2010 at his home. He was born August 4, 1945 in Breese, son of Cornelius G. "Corney" and Leona (Kohrs) Mondt. He married Sandra L. Helbig on June 1, 1968 in Stone Church, IL and she survives in Aviston. In addition to his wife, Sandra, and his mother, Leona Mondt of Aviston, he is survived by two sons, David R. Mondt and Daniel A. (Donna) Mondt both of Aviston; two daughters, Sarah A. (Ryan) Strieker of Damiansville and Deborah L. Mondt of Aviston; two grandchildren, Travis and Amber Mondt; a sister, Mary Lou (Dennis) Kluemke of Carlyle; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Sharon & Larry Britt of Patoka, Larry Helbig of Oakdale, Alberta & Jerry Powell of Jupiter, FL, & Dennis & Pam Helbig of Coulterville. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Albert & Eileen Helbig. Mr. Mondt was a dairy farmer. He was a member of St. Francis Parish, Aviston Knights of Columbus Council 11110, Clinton County Farm Bureau, Dairy Farmers of America, and was a former director and currently an associate director of the Clinton County Soil Conservation Board. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at St. Francis Church in Aviston with Rev. Dan Friedman officiating. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Aviston. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, December 27, 2010 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at Hempen Funeral Home in Aviston. There will be a prayer service at 4 p.m. and the Knights of Columbus will pray the rosary at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the St. Francis Church Improvement Fund or to the family and will be received at the funeral home.
