Robbie Jeanette Odom Moses of Pearland, Texas – formerly of New Baden, Illinois passed away Tuesday, January 31st, 2012 at The Hamptons Willowbrook Skilled Care Facility, Houston, Texas. Robbie was born August 31st, 1937 in Carlisle, Tennessee and she was the daughter of Curtis and Stella (Manners) Odom. Robbie married Dee W. Moses on August 30th, 1958 at the United Methodist Church, New Baden, Illinois. Robbie was a graduate of New Baden High School, Class of 1955. She held a Master of Arts degree from Southwest Texas State University and a Doctorate degree from the University of Houston in American studies. Dr. Robbie Moses taught economics and government at Houston Independent School District magnet school for Technology, as well as Alvin Community College, Houston Baptist University, and Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas. A former investment advisor and banker, and graduate of Stonier Graduate School of Banking, she served as a reader for U.S. Government advance placement candidates for the College Board and as project citizen district coordinator for the center for Civic Education. Dr. Moses was chosen by Rice University to participate in a three week study tour of East Asia and South Korea. Dr. Robbie Moses, Education Coordinator, retired from the Houston branch Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas in 2010. She created and conducted seminars, workshops, programs, and lectures designed principally for secondary educators and students enabling them to understand the operations and functions of the Federal Reserve System. Dr. Moses is survived by her husband, Dee W. Moses of Houston, Texas; a brother, Philip Odom (Teri); sisters, Gay Odom Eckert, Wanda Odom Gildig (Roger), and Rose Odom (Clyde Dooley); sisters-in-law, Colleen Landefeld, Arlene Moses Baker, and Joyce Moses Brannan; and brother-in-laws, David Moses (Bonnie), and James Moses (Judy). Dr. Moses is also survived by her niece and God-daughter, Linda Eckert Juenger (Dean); nieces, Lisa Eckert, Laurie Eckert Schobert (Mike), Denise Odom Pearson (Greg), Dawn Odom Kehrer (Joe), Carrie Odom Bickford (Justin), Malaina Odom (fiancée Cale), Holly Mae Odom, Fawn Davis, Lacy Davis Georges (Wesley), Amy Odom Pearson (Mark), Ellen Odom Bemis (Steve), Allison Odom Adams (John), Heather Chesser (John), and Erin Hawkins (Tim); nephews, Scott Odom (Stephanie), Chad Gildig (Sandra); nieces, Janis Brannan, Jane McCoy (Ronnie), Allison Davis (Jason); nephews, Ronnie Brannan (Debbie), Bruce Brannan (Billie), Lloyd Baker (Sherry), David Moses, and Brent Moses (Stacey). There are countless more great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends from the Odom/Moses union in Texas, Illinois, and Tennessee. She will also be greatly missed by her and Dee’s dog – Ms. Sadie. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Dr. Ira Edgar Odom and Curtis Odom, Jr.; brothers-in-law, Saverio “Chuck” Eckert, Richard Elmblad, Dennis Kues, Edward Brannan, and Leon Baker; and a nephew, Clint Kues. A Memorial Service honoring the life of Dr. Moses was held at First Baptist Church, 201 East 9th Street @ Harvard, Houston, Texas on February 11th, 2012 at 11:00am. Former Pastor Larry Young officiating. A resting Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 23, 2012 at the New Baden United Methodist Church in New Baden, Illinois with Pastor Carl Johnston officiating. Burial of cremains will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in New Baden, Illinois. Arrangements made by Hempen Funeral Home, 15 E. Hanover, New Baden, Illinois 62265.
