Martin H. Mueller, 77, of Mascoutah, died Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville. He was born September 17, 1936 in rural Mascoutah, son of Herman and Rosa (Ottensmeier) Mueller. He married Pearl E. Engelmann July 12, 1955 in Fort Lee, VA and she survives in Mascoutah. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Mark (Sue Ann) Mueller of Mascoutah, Barb (Bob Blaylock) Netemeyer of Troy, David (Tammy) Mueller of Okawville, Susan (Cy) Schniers of Aviston, Jane (Doug) Wagner of Marissa, Libbie (Larry) Fix and Tina (John) Jakob all of Belleville, and Ryan (Nikki) Mueller of New Memphis; 26 grandchildren, Tiffany Mueller, Lucas Mueller, Jennifer (Jim) Phillips, Amanda Bruni, Kyle (Alicia) Uhring, Brittney Netemeyer, A.J. Netemeyer, Blake (Jamie) Mueller, Derk Mueller, Talyah Mueller, Kimberly Daum, Holly (Jeremy) Burrow, Erick Vernia, James Funk, Taylor Wagner, Jordon Wagner, Maggie Fix, Daniel Fix, Trey Fix, Amanda Fix, Rayne Jakob, River Jakob, Jake Mueller, Kailey Mueller, Tristan Mueller, and Josh (Heather) Schniers; five great-grandchildren, Lexi Phillips, Addison Bruni, Faith Vernia, Taylor Vernia, and Abigail Burrow; brothers and sisters, Ralph (Norma) Mueller and Johanna Mueller all of New Baden, Jerome (Sally) Mueller of Belleville, Mary (Vincent) Hogg of Lebanon, Benedict Mueller of Bethalto, Benjamin (Joanne) Mueller of Mascoutah, James (Pat) Mueller of Glendale, KY, Larry (Thelma) Mueller of Fairview Heights, Richard Mueller of Nashville, TN, Phillip (Linda) Mueller and Thomas (Karen) Mueller all of New Baden; his mother-in-law, Alberta Rabenort of Nashville, IL; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Violet & Jim Sisney of Nashville, IL, Fern & Dewey Jernigan of San Antonio, TX, Marilyn & Ron Bright of Columbus, OH, Dennis Engelmann of Nashville, IL, Helen Engelmann of Columbus, OH, and Barbara Engelmann of Centerville, TN; and he is also survived by his friend and companion, Boots. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Hunter Dean Burrow; two brothers, Alfred Mueller and Tony Mueller; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Aline Mueller, Rosalie Mueller, Mary Ann Mueller, Rosemary Mueller, Lawrence Engelmann, Melvin Engelmann, Robert & Marie Engelmann, and Clyde Hatfield; and his fathers-in-law, Wilbert Rabenort and John Engelmann. Following his service in the United States Army where he served overseas in Japan, Mr. Mueller worked at Lookingglass Prairie Telephone Company in Mascoutah for five years. In 1963 he began farming the family farm with his brother and sister-in-law, Alfred and Aline. After he retired from farming he continued to grow produce, especially for the needy. Mr. Mueller was a member of Holy Childhood of Jesus Catholic Church in Mascoutah and the St. Clair County Farm Bureau. Martin enjoyed gardening, woodworking, hunting, loved having family get-togethers, and enjoyed putting people to work that just stopped by for a visit. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Holy Childhood of Jesus Catholic Church in Mascoutah with Msgr. Jerome Hartlein and Rev. Jim Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Childhood Cemetery in Mascoutah. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, October 4, 2013 and from 8 a.m. until 9:15 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. In lieu of flowers, plants, or other gifts, please donate to your local food pantry.
