Miriam O. “Mimi” Neff, 84, of Aviston, died Saturday March 14, 2015 at Countryside Manor in Aviston, IL . She was born January 19, 1931 in Stronghurst, IL, daughter of Clarence and Jessie (Swearingen) Mellor. She married John Robert Neff August 11, 1950 in Stronghurst, IL and he preceded her in death November 16, 1988. She is survived by her children, John (Karen) Neff, Jr of Breese, IL, Karen (Richard) Robbel of Winnebago, IL, Sharon Neff of Janesville, WI, and James (Kathy) Neff of Benton, IL; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild; and a sister-in-law, Betty May Wilkinson and husband Harley of Costa Grande, AZ. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son, Ron Neff; a sister, Betty Wedel; a brother, Laurence Mellor; a brother-in-law, Del Wedel; and a her granddaughter Rebecca Robbel. Mrs. Neff was in the printing business as a typesetter for 50 years and served as secretary of the director of volunteers at St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary. Miriam was graphic artist all of her life. She and her husband were supporters of the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps. She was a member of St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary in Breese, and the Eastern Star where she was past worthy matron. Mrs. Neff was also an avid fan of Cardinal baseball and NASCAR. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday March 18, 2015 at Hempen-Nordike Funeral Home in Breese with Rev. Mike Rucker officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Machesney Park, IL. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday March 18, 2015 at Hempen-Nordike Funeral Home in Breese. Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Fund and will be received at the funeral home.
