Olga McCoy passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at her home in Hoffman at the age of 80 years. Olga was born in Hoyleton, Illinois on April 23, 1933, the daughter of John and Anna (Meier) Boehne. She married John McCoy at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman on June 20, 1970, and he survives in Hoffman.
Olga is survived by her husband: John McCoy of Hoffman; children: Lola Zimmermann and husband Bob of Hoffman, Rodney Mattmiller and wife Joan of Hastings, Minnesota and Kendra Phoenix and husband King of Centralia; nine grandchildren: Tristan Zimmermann and wife Ashley, Crystal Fancher and husband Isaac, Logan Zimmermann, Austin Mattmiller, Lauren Mattmiller, Travis Burleyson and wife Nikki, Brandon Burleyson and wife Staci, Matt Phoenix and wife Jennifer and T.J. Phoenix; six great grandchildren: Gavin and Kendall Zimmermann, Keagan and Bryar Burleyson, and Lane and Parker Phoenix; a sister: Lorna Grote of Hoyleton; sisters-in-law: Elinor Boehne of Nashville and Jane Lueking and husband Ron of Richview; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. McCoy was preceded in death by her parents; a brother: William Boehne; a sister: Laura Boehne, mother-in-law: Elizabeth McCoy; and brothers-in-law: Herbert Grote and Charles McCoy.
Olga enjoyed her life as a homemaker. Previously she has worked as a preschool teacher, church and school custodian, at Littlefuse, and served as an American Red Cross Blood Drive co-ordinator. In 2002 she received the Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award in Springfield.
Olga loved life. She spent her time crocheting, playing cards, flower gardening and going to family gatherings. She especially liked spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman with Pastor Stephen Krenz officiating. The interment will follow at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Hoffman.
Friends may visit with the family at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman on Tuesday from 5 to 8:00 P.M. and on Wednesday from 8:00 A.M. until the time of services.
For those wishing to honor Olga with a memorial, the family suggests memorials to the Trinity Lutheran Church Music Ministry and those will be received at the Frerker Funeral Home which is serving the family.
