Olin Hoffmann, 88, of New Baden, died Saturday, April 28, 2018 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in O’Fallon. He was born July 8, 1929 in New Baden, the son of Gustave and Lillian, nee Fiedler, Hoffmann. He married Eileen Billhartz June 13, 1953 and she survives in New Baden.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Marc (Elaine) Hoffmann and Lesley (Dr. William) Koentz; grandchildren, Grant (Robyn) Koentz, Ashley (Tim) Reno, Joel (Micha) Koentz, Mathew (Hollie) Koentz, and Morgan (Alex) Rakers; great-grandchildren, Izabelle and Oliver Koentz, Maddox and Mason Koentz, Noah Olin Koentz, and Amelia Rakers.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his great-grandson, T.J. Reno; a sister, Ella Mae Thoele; brothers-in-law, Walter Thoele and Warren O. Billhartz; and a nephew, Joseph Thoele.
Olin attended public school in New Baden and Ranken Trade School. He served in the U. S. Army in the 806th Engineer Division in Korea; he returned to New Baden after being honorably discharged and returned to work at Granite City Steel Co. He retired from there and built several houses, owned and managed rental property, and he and his son, Marc, owned and operated the Western Auto Store in New Baden for a number of years.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden with Pastor Christy Eckert officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in New Baden.
Visitation will be held Monday, April 30, 2018 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden.
Memorials may be made to St. John UCC - Trenton and will be received at the funeral home.
