Paul Uhring, 96, of Mascoutah, departed this life on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Cedar Ridge Health and Rehab Center in Lebanon. He was born May 27, 1919 in Washington Park, the son of Paul and Mary Uhring. He married Minnie Rehkemper on January 16, 1946 in Highland and she preceded him in death on November 17, 2012.
Paul is survived by a daughter, Velma Brokering of New Baden; a son, Norman Uhring of Belleville; five grandchildren, Glenn (Renee) Brokering, Daryl Brokering, Jennifer (Jim) Phillips, Amanda (Mark) Griese, and Kyle (Alicia) Uhring; eight great-grandchildren, Tori, Trina, Lance, and Alyssa Brokering, Alexis and James Phillips, Addison Bruni, and Braxton Uhring; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ferd and Mary Rehkemper of St. Rose; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Charles Brokering; a brother, Michael Uhring; seven sisters, Anna Feher, Helen Mosolygo, Margaret Uhring, Bessie Bach, Mary Chaney, Frances Greear, and Esther Berris; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Edward & Josephine Rehkemper, Regina & Arthur Klostermann, Veronica & Joseph Reidelberger, Josephine “Josie” & Anthony Schleper, Elizabeth “Betty” & Paul Holtgrave, and Mel Greear.
Mr. Uhring was retired from grain farming with his wife. He was a lifelong member of the Illinois Farm Bureau.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Gene Neff officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2016 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden.
Memorials may be made to St. George Parish Resurrection Cemetery or Celtic Hospice, Shiloh, IL and will be received at the funeral home.
