Gertrude G. Peters, 84, of Aviston, died Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at her home. She was born June 7, 1922 in Pocahontas, daughter of William and Josephine (Holthaus) Schwierjohn. She married Clem H. Peters on June 7, 1950 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Pierron and he preceded her in death on December 26, 2002. She is survived by her children, Bill Peters and wife Kay of Aviston, Charlie Peters and wife Denise of Highland, Dale Peters and wife Susan of Trenton, Donna Mertens of St. Louis, MO and Cindy Netemeyer and husband Eric of Albers; eleven grandchildren, Nathan Peters, Larissa Fields and husband Josh, Bethany Peters, Samantha Peters, Jeremy Peters, Michelle Vondrak and husband Ken, Jacqueline Peters, Jonathan Peters, Richard Mertens, Robert Mertens, and Laura Mertens; two great grandchildren, Cheyenne Vondrak and Shaylee Vondrak; a brother, Henry Schwierjohn, of Pierron; three sisters, Catherine Wessel of Pierron, Josephine Rehkemper and Christine Holtgrave, both of St. Rose; and sisters-in-law, Betty Schwierjohn of Texas and Frieda Petri of Chicago. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Clemence Schwierjohn, who died in his youth, Joseph Schwierjohn, William Schwierjohn and Alphonse Schwierjohn; two sisters, Agnes Schwierjohn, who also died in her youth, and Helen Frey; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Loretta Schwierjohn, Vincent Wessel, Ben Rehkemper, Erwin Holtgrave, Delmar Frey, & Alvina Schwierjohn. Mrs. Peters was a homemaker and a member of St. Francis Parish and Ladies sodality. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2007 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston with Rev. Dan Friedman officiating. Interment will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Aviston. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2007 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2007 at Hempen Funeral Home in Aviston. Memorials may be made to St. Francis Parish and will be received at the funeral home.
