Pitt, Evelyn

Evelyn W. Pitt, 98, of Breese, Ill., died on Saturday, December 17, 2005 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese. She was born on December 30, 1906 in Breese, daughter of George and Ida (Schuette) Buehler. She married Melbourne Pitt on June 29, 1940 in Breese and he preceded her in death on May 14, 1961. Mrs. Pitt is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and a large circle of friends. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Victor Buehler who died on November 24, 1989. She was a retail clerk in downtown Breese for 65 years, having worked at Robben & Niemeyer, Schmidt Dry Goods and Becker Jewelers. She was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Breese; she was a member of the church choir, St. John’s Women’s Fellowship, she was superintendent of Sunday School for 45 years; a member of Breese Women’s Club and Breese Senior Citizens.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Breese with Rev. Gretchen Sterrett officiating. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Breese.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Breese.
Memorials may be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ or to the donor’s choice and will be received at the church or Hempen Funeral Home in Breese, who is in charge of arrangements.
