Powell, Barbara

Barbara L. Powell, 79, of Aviston, died Saturday, December 1, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville. She was born February 17, 1933 in El Paso, TX daughter of Robert and Pauline (Tenney) Lee. She married Raymond S. Powell June 3, 1953 in Austin, TX and he preceded her in death February 2, 1991. She is survived by a son, Michael (Tanya) Powell of Aviston; a grandchild, Jessica Page; a brother, John Paul (Lois) Belcher of Seattle, WA; and a niece Jessica Becklund of San Felepe, CA. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Young; and a brother-in-law, Archie Young. Before her retirement, Mrs. Powell was a special services director at Emerald Gardens Nursing Home in Lebanon (now Cedar Ridge Nursing Home). She was a member of the American Legion Post 252 Auxiliary in Breese. Barbara enjoyed playing bingo and flowers. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Hempen Funeral Home in Aviston with Charlie McGee officiating. Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until time of service Saturday, December 8, 2012 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 252 Auxiliary or to the American Heart Association and will be received at the funeral home.
