Ralph B. Goldsmith

Ralph Bernard Goldsmith, 83, of New Baden, died Monday, October 26, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville. He was born June 2, 1932 in New Memphis, the son of Frank and Rose (Wessling) Goldsmith. He married Marlene Garbs on June 18, 1952 in Fruitland, Idaho and she survives in New Baden.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughter, Kim (Kurt) Laux of New Baden; two grandchildren, Chad (special friend, Rhonda Kohrman) Satterfield, and Kyle (Trenna) Laux; three great-grandchildren, Denym and Creed Laux, and Neve Satterfield; a sister, Lillian Reinhardt of New Baden; a sister-in-law, Bette Goldsmith of St. Louis, MO; a nephew, Steve (Michelle) Bann and their children, Allie (special friend, Andrew) Bann, and Paige Bann; three nieces, Judy Broderson, Susan Adams, and Diana (Denny) Commer; he is also survived by great nieces and cousins (and his special cousin, Alice Goldsmith).

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Walter & Mildred Garbs; three brothers, Edward, Franklin, and Wilson Goldsmith; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Elvira Goldsmith, Dolores Goldsmith, Ray Reinhardt, and Virla & Paul Bann.

Mr Goldsmith retired after 27 years of service as a construction supervisor in the carpenter shop at Scott AFB, and was the Owner of G&G Tavern along with his wife and father-in-law from 1956 to 1961. Ralph was a veteran of the United States Air Force, the President of the Lakeshore Acres Association and served on the Village Council from 1959-1967. He was a member and Council member of Zion United Church of Christ in New Baden, the American Legion Post 321 for over 63 years; Trenton Lodge #504; and a 50 year member of both the Scottish Rite Consistory 32 degree mason and the Aniad Temple in E. St. Louis.

All services will be private.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Legion Post 321 and will be received at Nordike Funeral Home, 15 E. Hanover, New Baden, IL 62265 who is serving the family.
