Sylvia Ratermann, 82, of Aviston, died Saturday, September 1, 2007 at her home in Aviston. She was born August 17, 1925 in Aviston daughter of Otto and Clara (Daniel) Kues. She married Robert J. Ratermann, Sr. on October 6, 1943 in Trenton and he preceded her in death on June 15, 1991. Mrs. Ratermann is survived by her children, Dennis Ratermann and wife Donna, Jeanette Wellen, Ron Ratermann and wife Sarah and Rob Ratermann and wife Cindy all of Aviston; twelve grandchildren, Doug Ratermann and wife Angie, Dan Ratermann and wife Megan, Dana Ratermann, Kirk Wellen and wife Stacy, Stacy Liening and husband Mark, Jason Ratermann, Wendy Messick and husband Ben, Mandy Ratermann and fiancé Chad Middendorff, Phillip Joseph "P.J." Ratermann, Amy Ratermann, Aly Ratermann and Abby Ratermann; and ten great grandchildren; two brothers, Urban "Red" Kues of Breese, and Cyril "John" Kues and wife Doris of Lebanon; three sisters, Mary Jane Korte of Trenton, Dolores Lampe of Aviston and Elizabeth Spihlmann and husband Ralph of Columbia; sisters-in-law, Grace Kues of Ft. Collins, CO, Mary Ellen Kues of St. Peters, MO, Rene Ratermann of Aviston, and brother-in-law, Ray Baird of Jacksonville, FL. In addition to her husband and her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Ratermann; brothers, Joseph Kues, Daniel Kues, Edmond Kues; sisters, Johanna Renschen-Von Hatten and Martha Gibson Baird; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dot Kues, Otto Korte, Anthony Lampe, Alvin Renschen, Victor Von Hatten, Marguerite Kues, and by Ratermann family brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Mrs. Ratermann was a homemaker. She was also a cook at the American Legion in Aviston, the Aviston Grade School and the Colonel’s Restaurant. She was a member of St. Francis Parish in Aviston, and American Legion Post 1239 Auxiliary. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Monday, September 10, 2007 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston with Rev. Dan Friedman officiating. Burial of cremains will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Aviston. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 9, 2007 and from 8 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. on Monday, September 10, 2007 at Hempen Funeral Home in Aviston. Memorials may be made to Aviston American Legion Auxiliary and will be received at the funeral home.
