Richard J. Rensing, 88, of New Baden, died Tuesday, March 10, 2015. He was born January 16, 1927 in New Baden, son of Henry and Elizabeth (Haake) Rensing. He married Dorothy J. “Dotty” Hodges on August 28, 1947 in Chester, IL and she preceded him in death on November 21, 2003. He is survived by his daughter, Debra (David “Chuck”) Huffman of New Baden; grandchildren, Scott Rensing, Robin (Gary) Griesbaum, David B. (Michelle) Huffman, Tom (Amanda) Huffman, & Brian Huffman; great-grandchildren, Kaela, Ellie, Megan, Avery, Nolan, Liam, Brecklin, Drake, and Tyler; a sister-in-law, Patricia A. “Patsy” Hodges of New Baden; and a former daughter-in-law, Doris Rensing of O’Fallon. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a son, Richard L. “Dickie” Rensing; seven brothers, Ernst, Henry, Raymond, Clarence, Herbert, George, and Paul Rensing; three sisters, Ann Nagel, Marie Rensing, and Helen Grenier. Before his retirement, Mr. Rensing was a construction laborer for Keeley Bros. Construction in E. St. Louis. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served during WWII. Richard was a member of the New Baden Legion Post 321 and the Labors Local 100. He loved being in the woods at his clubhouse. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Hempen-Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden with Rev. Gretchen Sterrett officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in New Baden. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2015 and from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Hempen-Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden. The American Legion will visit the funeral home at 6 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home.
