Cornelia E. "Connie" Reynolds, 78, of Germantown, died Thursday, April 30, 2009, at Countryside Manor in Aviston. She was formerly of New Baden. She was born Sept. 13, 1930 at the Keller Home in Pierron, the daughter of Ida (Gnaedinger) and Erwin Potthast. On June 3, 1953 she married Doyle C. Reynolds of Bell City, MO at St. George Church in New Baden. Connie was retired from Civil Service at Scott AFB and a homemaker. Her husband was in the Air Force and she took advantage of planning many family vacations around Europe and stateside. She was an avid card player, loved to quilt, play bingo, and bake. Her special vanilla wafer cookies will be missed greatly at holidays. She was a member of St. George Church, Altar Sodality; New Baden American Legion Poelker Post 321 Auxiliary; past president North Central Deanery of the Catholic Council of Women; and past president of Mater Dei Mothers and Friends Club. Survivors include her husband; her children, Michael E. (Carrie) Reynolds of Laguna Beach, CA, Doyle C. (Jay Constantz) Reynolds, II of Atlanta, GA, Kathleen M. (Gerald) Fauke of Germantown, Joel M.F. (Xin) Reynolds of Alpharetta, GA, and Eric Q. (Jennifer) Reynolds of Wildwood, MO; 7 grandchildren, Sam Reynolds, Flynn and Lisl Fauke, Maximus and Joeleen Reynolds, and Abigail and Erin Reynolds; her brothers, Anthony (Ruth) Potthast of Fenton, MO, and Ferdinand (Joan) Potthast of O’Fallon, MO; sister-in-laws, Josie Potthast of Highland, Ruth Potthast of Aviston, Betty Potthast of Beaver Prairie, Helen (Paul) Friess of Trenton; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Winnie (Cleve) Jolly of Cape Girardeau, MO, Joe (Dolores) Reynolds of Florissant, MO, Robert (Evelyn) Reynolds of Richmond, MO, Carol Reynolds of Sikeston, MO, and Rita Hodge of Oran, MO; many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters and brothers, Emma Potthast, Norbert Potthast, Ernest Potthast, Quintin Potthast, Sr. Mary Agnes Potthast, and Donald Potthast; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Vinson Reynolds, Lehman Reynolds, Earl Reynolds, Jesse Jr. Reynolds, Justine Reynolds, Lorene Guffey, Lola Mae Griffith, and Cheryl Haskell; her father-in-law and stepmother-in-law, Jesse Sr. and Lillian Reynolds; nephews, Joseph Potthast, Mark Potthast, Chris Potthast and Bryce Reynolds; and niece, Mary Agnes Harper. Friends may call Sunday, May 3, 2009 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Monday, May 4, 2009 from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at Hempen Funeral home in New Baden. There will be a prayer service at 5 p.m. and the American Legion Auxiliary will visit at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, May 4, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at St. George Church with Rev. Eugene Neff officiating. Interment will follow in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO at 1:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home.
