MSgt. Doyle C. Reynolds, Ret. U.S.A.F., 85, of New Baden, died Thursday, February 23, 2012 at St. Anthony’s Hospice/de Greeff Hospice House in St. Louis County, MO. He was born November 12, 1926 in Bell City, MO, son of Jess and Ethel (Stroup) Reynolds, Sr. He married Cornelia E. “Connie” Potthast on June 3, 1953 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden and she preceded him in death on April 30, 2009. He is survived by his children, Michael E. (Carrie) Reynolds of Laguna Beach, CA, Doyle C. (Jay Constantz) Reynolds, II of Atlanta, GA, Kathleen M. Reynolds-Fauke of Germantown, IL, Joel M.F. (Xin) Reynolds of Alpharetta, GA, Eric Q. (Jennifer) Reynolds of Wildwood, MO; seven grandchildren, Sam Reynolds, Flynn Fauke, Lisl Fauke, Maximus Reynolds, Joeleen Reynolds, Abigail Reynolds, and Erin Reynolds; a brother, Joe B. (Dolores) Reynolds of Florissant, MO ; a sister, Winnie (Cleve) Jolly of Cape Girardeau, MO, three half-sisters, Sharron, Rita, and Carol; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Evelyn Reynolds of Richmond, MO, Betty Potthast of Beaver Prairie, IL, Helen & Paul Freiss of Trenton, IL, Anthony & Ruth Potthast of Fenton, MO, Ferd & Joan Potthast of O’Fallon, MO, and Ruth Potthast of Aviston, IL. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Robert Reynolds, Earl Reynolds, Cheryl Jean Haskell, Lorene Guffey, Lola Mae Griffith, Lehman Reynolds, Jesse Reynolds, Jr., Justine Reynolds, and Vinson Reynolds; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Quintin Potthast, Donald Potthast, Norbert & Josie Potthast, Ernest Potthast, Sr. Mary Agnes Potthast, and Emma Potthast; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Erwin & Ida (Gnaedinger) Potthast. Doyle joined the U.S. Army in 1945 serving in WWII. In 1948 he joined the Air Force serving in the Korean War, the Vietnam Conflict, duty tours in the Pacific, Asia, Europe and several bases stateside. Retiring in 1969, he followed his active duty service with seventeen years in Civil Service. In retirement he drove a bus for Our World Senior Day Care in O'Fallon, IL. He was a member of St. George Parish, the New Baden American Legion Post 321 where he was a past chaplain, Mater Dei Fathers & Friends Club, and the Mater Dei School Board. An avid euchre and rummy player, an accomplished pitcher with a wicked curve ball, a great pool shooter, bowler, and unbeatable checker player; Doyle was a compassionate and gentle father, husband, and friend. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 27, 2012 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Gene Neff officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, February 26, 2012 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2012 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. There will be a prayer service at 5 p.m. and the American Legion will visit at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Donor’s Choice and will be received at the funeral home.
