Bernice M. Richter, 89, of Aviston, died Monday, September 23, 2013 at Countryside Manor in Aviston. She was born July 26, 1924 in St. Rose, daughter of John and Rose (Fehlker) Wellen. She married Virgil J. Richter April 8, 1947 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland and he preceded her in death January 2, 2006. She is survived by her children, Ron (Patty) Richter of Broomfield, CO, Dan (Colleen) Richter of Shiloh, IL, Judith (Steve) Winchester of Waynesville, NC, Gerry (Linda) Richter and Dale (Mary Jo) Richter all of Aviston, IL, John (Mary) Richter of Platte City, MO, and Patrick Richter of Chesterfield, MO; 13 grandchildren, Jennifer (Zach) Bearden, Justin Richter, Scott (Erin) Richter, Timothy (Jillian) Richter, Kimberly (Ryan) Macy, Brent (Maritza) Maue, Tara Richter, Shawna (Matt) Ryerson, Lane (Clara) Richter, Beth (fiance, Jay Friederich) Richter, Ryan Richter, Kyle (Noelle) Richter and Kacie Richter; two step-grandchildren, Brad Winchester and Stephanie (John) Warren; nine great-grandchildren, Olivia, Everett, Aidan, and Asher Macy, Jacob Maue, Matthew and Aaron Richter, Lydia Ryerson, and Lilly Richter, and was anticipating the birth of another great-grandchild February 1, 2014; sisters & brothers, Rosemary Meyer, John (Alice) Wellen, Dolores (Paul) Talleur, and Bernadette (Gerald) Sparlin all of Highland; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Bernice Wellen and Bernice Wellen both of Highland, and Emmett & Norma Carroll of Keysport. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Theresa Carroll; two brothers, Al Wellen and George Wellen; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Norman Meyer, Leona Richter, Valeria and Eugene Ripperda, Florence and Charles Albers, Ruth and Edgar Schrage, and Leo Richter, Jr. Mrs. Richter was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Francis Parish and Ladies Sodality in Aviston. Bernice liked to travel, and she enjoyed quilting, making pies, and was famous for her cookies. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 26, 2013 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston with Rev. Dan Friedman officiating. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Aviston. Friends may call from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. Thursday, September 26, 2013 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Vincent De Paul Society or St. Francis Parish School of Religion Program and will be received at the funeral home.
