Joseph A. "Brownie" Richter, 71 of Breese, died with his family by his side Sunday, January 17, 2010 at his home. He was born January 23, 1938 in Breese, son of Edward J. and Regina (Voss) Richter. He married Beatrice M. Kampwerth on November 27, 1965 in Breese and she survives in Breese. In addition to his wife he survived by three children, Lori Ann (Gregory) Kuper of Breese, Vicki Lynn (Bill) Smothers of Aviston and Scott J. Richter of Breese; five grandchildren, Joseph A. Gebke, Mason and Madeline Kuper, and Olivia and Carly Smothers; five brothers, Paul (Martha) Richter, Charles Richter, and James (Mary Jane) Richter all of Breese, Ben (Doris) Richter of Aviston, and Mike (Sue) Richter of Germantown; five sisters, Mary Revermann and Joanie Richter of Breese, Patricia (Henry) Detmer of St. Rose, "Marti" (Vic Jr.) Billhartz of Bowling Green, KY, and Judy (Mark) Richter of Highland; sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Mike) Thole of Breese & Jean (Don) Bujnak of Belleville; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Frank Richter; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, August and Alvina (Beckmann) Kampwerth; and three brothers-in-law, Bill Holtgrave, Kenny Revermann and Raymond Kampwerth in infancy. Mr. Richter was a truck driver for Weber Bulk Feed. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of St. Dominic Parish in Breese. Joe enjoyed country dancing, traveling, Cardinal baseball games and being with his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 21, 2010 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese with Rev. Ben Stern officiating. Private burial at St. Dominic/St. Augustine Cemetery will follow at a later date. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2010 and from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 21, 2010 at Hempen Funeral Home in Breese. Memorials may be made to St. Dominic Parish, VNA TIP Hospice, or Clinton County Relay for Life and will be received at the funeral home.
