Rita Ann Broeckling

Rita Ann Broeckling, age 95, of New Baden, passed away on April 25, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Breese, IL. She was born on July 12, 1928, in Belleville, Illinois, the daughter of Arthur and Matilda (Rieken) Peters. She married Walter Broeckling in Mississippi on December 27, 1947, and he preceded her in death on August 9, 2002. They were married 55 years.

Rita was a dedicated mother and grandmother who found immense joy in family gatherings while bringing warmth, acceptance and creativity to her family and friends. She was passionate about crafts, sewing, knitting, puzzles, an avid animal lover and often babysat for her grand puppies. Rita’s kind spirit and gentle demeanor touched the lives of all who knew her. She was a beloved soul known for her loving and caring nature.  

She is survived by her children: Dennis (Linda) Broeckling, Donna (Randy) Feldt, Walter Dean Broeckling, Peggy (Curt) Wright, Mary Blavesciunas, Lonny Broeckling, and sons-in-law Robert (Linda)Bower and James Osborne (Janet Flowers), grandchildren: Rebecca (Brad) Armstrong, Amber (Mike) Ayre, Jennifer (Corey)Myers, Eric (Kristen)Broeckling, James (Liza) Broeckling, Douglas (Michelle) Feldt, Patrick (Tisha) Flowers, Gabriel (Brad Martin) Flowers, Dawn (Bruce) Jonas, Nicole (Tyler) Stone, Jennifer Pineiro, Dean (Marcy)Renaud, Bruce (Melissa)Beadle, Brian Beadle, Timothy Beadle, Autumn (John) Molinari, Hollie Wasser, Justin (Angie Hampton) Blavesciunas, Melinda (Larry) Wilson, Christopher (Megan) Broeckling, numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and step grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sisters Betty Kimbro, Janice “Dotty” Conklin, Margie Hansen, and sister-in-law Dolores Peters.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, husband, daughters (Linda Bower and Janet Flowers), grandson (Matthew Broeckling). son-in-law (John Blavesciunas); brothers (Ralph Peters and William “Buddy” Peters and wife Mary), sister (Jenevia M “Dolly” Browder and husband William), brothers-in-law (Earl Kimbro and Charles Conklin), father-in-law and mother-in-law (Herman and Clara Broeckling), brother-in-law (Herman Jr. and wife, Annie Broeckling) and good friend Robert Brandmeyer.  

Funeral Services will be held at Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 11am. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, from 9:00 to 11:00 am at Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden.

Memorials made in memory of Rita are suggested to St. Jude Childrens Hospital and will be received at Nordike Funeral Home, 15 East Hanover Street, New Baden, IL 62265.
