Rita M. Zollner, 92, of Albers, died Monday, July 9, 2018 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. She was born May 24, 1926 in New Baden, the daughter of John and Amelia, nee Hatzala, Frankovich. She married George A. Zollner November 25, 1948 and he preceded her in death on May 6, 1968.
Rita is survived by her four children, Rita (Jerrold) Chandler of Carlinville, George (Lois) Zollner of Breese, Gail Paustian of Highland Park, NJ., and Monica (Tim) Mroz of Waterloo; six grandchildren, Lt. Commander David (Rebecca) Chandler, Elizabeth Ann (Justin) Knoedler, Allison (Andy) Cassibry, George E. (Jackie) Zollner, Sara (Mike) Zezza, and Mike Paustian; 12 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings and in-laws.
Before her retirement, Mrs. Zollner worked in civil service at Scott Air Force Base. She was a member of St. Bernard Parish in Albers. Rita enjoyed playing bingo, going to casinos, watching sports, fine dining, and traveling. She was an avid bowler, a terrific cook, and most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Albers with Rev. Anthony Onyango and Deacon Glenn Netemeyer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Albers.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 11, 2018 from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Albers.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, St. Bernard Parish, or for masses and will be received at the church or Nordike Funeral Home, 15 E. Hanover St., New Baden, IL 62265 who is serving the family.
