Roger E. Boeckman, age 87, of Breese passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2020 at Breese Nursing Home. He was born on August 4, 1932 in Breese, the son of Edward and Pauline (Ratermann) Boeckman and they preceded him in death. He married Dorothy Quitmeyer in Trenton on September 5, 1960 and she preceded him in death on June 3, 2020.
He is survived by three sons: Brian Boeckman and wife Julie, Brad Boeckman and wife Karen, and Brent Boeckman and wife Jackie all of Breese; five grandchildren: Dylan Boeckman and wife Jessica, Rachel Boeckman and fiancé Aaron Timmermann, Amanda Boeckman and special friend Hugh Trickel, Luke Boeckman, and Amy Boeckman; a brother: Howard Boeckman and wife Bonnie; a sister: Jody Boeckman; and sisters-in-law, Leola Holzinger and Mary Anne Quitmeyer-Pudney.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joseph Quitmeyer, Rita Haas, Leroy “Shorty” Haas, Carl Welker, Alice & Robert Kuhl, PHJC Stella Quitmeyer, Edith and Charles “Red” Schoemaker, and Ewald Holzinger.
Roger was a veteran of the US Army having served in the Korean war; he then worked in the US Army aviation system command as a contract analysis specialist for 20 years. He was a member of St. Augustine Parish and Holy Name in Breese as well as the Breese Knights of Columbus Council #2869, the Breese American Legion Post 252, and the Trenton VFW Post 7983. He enjoyed traveling, bowling, and dancing, especially to polkas, waltzes, and the jitterbug.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese with Rev. Chuck Tuttle officiating. Everyone is required to wear a mask if attending mass. Please call 618-791-0069 to register for a seat in church.
Interment will follow at St. Augustine / St. Dominic Catholic Cemetery in Breese.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 and on Thursday from 8:00 until 9:30 AM at Nordike Funeral Home in Breese. Everyone is encouraged to wear a mask. The family requests no handshakes or hugs and to please follow social distancing guidelines.
Memorials made in Roger’s memory are suggested to St. Augustine’s Catholic Church or the American Legion Post 252 and will be received at Nordike Funeral Home, 150 North Clinton Street, Breese, IL 62230.
