Rosalie R. Athmer, 76, of Damiansville, died Monday, April 10, 2017 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. She was born January 6, 1941 in Damiansville, the daughter of Joseph and Minnie, nee Wesselmann, Detmer. She married William G. “Bill” Athmer, Jr. in Bartelso on September 7, 1960 and he preceded her in death on December 13, 2009.
She is survived by her children, Karen (Terry) Mauser of New Baden, Duane (Terry) Athmer of Wilmington, OH, Matt (Lynn) Athmer of Germantown, Keith (Jane) Athmer of Trenton, Daryl Athmer (friend, Jenifer Elias)of New Baden, Michelle (Herman) Wegmann of New Baden, Craig (Christina) Athmer of Damiansville, and Kelly (Jeff) Elias of Breese; 18 grandchildren, Dawn (Mike) Dulle, Jason (Kayla) Athmer, Stephanie (Billy) Perdue, Brad (Kelly) Wegmann, Angela (Zach) Peters, Ryan Athmer, Adam (Amanda)Athmer, Shaina Athmer, Jeffrey (Briana) Wegmann, Kendra Athmer, Maddyson Athmer, Katelyn Elias, Abigail Wegmann, William Athmer, Allison Elias, Anthony Athmer, Kevin Athmer, and Jacob Athmer; nine great-grandchildren, Claire & Madeline Dulle, Farrah, Reese, & Vincent Athmer, Jace & Lainey Peters, Conner Wegmann, and Hayleigh Perdue; and she was expecting her 10th great-grandchild in August; a brother, Stanley Detmer of Bartelso; a sister, Mary (Herman) Huelsmann of Aviston; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Julia Detmer of Breese, Rita Detmer of Trenton, Mary Ellen Detmer of Breese, Maurice Athmer of Damiansville, Dave & Marilyn Athmer of Carlyle, Dan & Diane Athmer of Damiansville and Jerry Wesselmann of Breese.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica Athmer; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Athmer; two sisters, Sister Delores Detmer, ASC, and Lorene Hemker; four brothers, Joseph Detmer, Theodore Detmer, Reginald Detmer, and Donald Detmer; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Henry Hemker, Cleta Detmer, Bernadette Detmer, and Theresa K. “Toots” Wesselmann; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, William F. & Vera M. Athmer, Sr.
Mrs. Athmer was a retired bus driver for the Damiansville School District. She was a member of St. Damian Parish and Ladies Sodality; and enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at St. Damian Catholic Church in Damiansville with Rev. Gene Neff and Deacon Glenn Netemeyer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Damian Cemetery in Damiansville.
Friends may call Monday, April 17, 2017 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden.
Memorials may be made to American Lung Association or to St. Damian Parish and will be received at the funeral home.
