Roy Michael, age 82, of Hoffman passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at the Carlyle Healthcare Center. He was born in rural Hoffman on January 8, 1934 the son of Theodore and Olinda (Reinkensmeyer) Michael. He married Joyce Poppel on June 11, 1960 in rural
Wolverton, MN and she survives in Carlyle.
Mr. Michael is also survived by his children: Michele Hill and husband Dale of Hoffman and James Michael and wife Connie of Centralia; three grandchildren: Meagn Michael, Zachary Michael, and Orion Hill; two sisters Wilma Lange of Hoffman and Maryann Leutner and husband Bill of Hoyelton; his brother: Wayne Michael and wife Nancy of Hoffman; sisters-in-law: Shelia Holston, Margaret Barringer and husband Lyle, Della Albert and husband Carlton, and Ruth Ann Poppel;
as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Charles and Augusta Poppel; his brother Robert Michael; brothers-in-law: Harlen Lange and Lawrence Poppel.
Roy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman. Mr. Michael was a veteran of the United States Army, he served his country from 1955 to 1957. He enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, camping, and traveling. Mr. Michael held many offices at Trinity Lutheran Church and was a former member of the village board. Roy was also one of the original members of the Hoffman Volunteer Fire Department. He was well known for his singing talent, he used that talent to sing in the church choir, and to sing at many weddings. He was a former member of the locally famous Hoffman Men’s Octet. Above all, Roy loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 11, 2016 from 5 until 7:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman and again on Saturday from noon until the time of services.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman with Pastor Stephen Krenz officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorials in honor of Roy are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church Endowment Fund, Christ Our Rock Lutheran High School or to the charity of donor’s choice and will be received at church or at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle.
