Sandra Le Powell, age 72 of Carlyle passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville. Sandra was born on August 24, 1943 in Carlyle the daughter of Robert and Violet (Brown) Falbe. She married Jack Powell on October 7, 1961 in Coulterville, IL. He preceded her in death on May 7, 1988.
Mrs. Powell was also preceded in death by her parents, and three sisters: Jane Roberg, Juanita Griffin, and Loretta Orell.
She is survived by two daughters: Jacqueline Toben and husband Carl of Huey, and Jeane Lange of Carlyle; her son: Van Powell and wife Julie of Highland; three brothers: Jim Falbe and wife Kathy, Richard Falbe and wife Angie, Bob Falbe and wife Lynn,; two sisters: Pat Krieger, and Opal Johnson; six grandchildren: Zachery, Corey, Andy, Sarah, Jack, and Dillion; four great grandchildren: Channing, Riley, Aidan, and Elsa.
Sandra raced hydro-plain boats for Falbe Racing in her younger years. She enjoyed playing games, especially scrabble, bingo, and card games. Mrs. Powell was a school bus driver for the Carlyle School District. She loved her job and loved being a mother.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at the Carlyle Township Cemetery.
Memorials in honor of Sandra are suggested to the Carlyle VFW and will be received at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle.
