Rose Ann Santel, 89, of Damiansville, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Clinton Manor in New Baden. She was born November 16, 1919 in Albers, daughter of William and Anna (Schulte) Johnson. She married Edwin Santel on August 10, 1943 in Albers and he preceded her in death on August 5, 2008. She is survived by her children, Marilyn (Albert) Tebbe of St. Rose, Eileen (Bill) Kampwerth of St. Rose, and Steven (Rosie) Santel of Damiansville; six grandchildren, Angela (Brian) Winkeler, Neal (Sarah) Tebbe, Amanda (Scott) Schrage, Dana (Bryan) Marcoot, Dale Kampwerth and Mike (Karen) Kampwerth; two step-grandchildren, Dawn (Isi) Schomaker and Stacy (Thomas) Yehling; seven great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; and one step great-great-grandchild; three brothers, George (Virginia) Johnson of Belleville, Anthony Johnson of Ocala, FL, and Edward (Jeanette) Johnson of New Baden; two sisters, Mary Ann Yungbluth of Jefferson City, MO, and Adeline "Ada" (Harold) Friederich of Mascoutah. In addition to her husband and her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Rose Santel; five brothers, Martin B. "Hoot" Johnson, Alois "Whiz" Johnson, Harry "Popeye" Johnson, Vincent "Sparky" Johnson and Bernard W. "Benny" Johnson; one sister, Dorothy Feldmann; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lenora Johnson, Genevieve Johnson, Kay Johnson, Margie Johnson, Edward Feldmann, John Yungbluth, Audrey Johnson, Bernard H. & Cecelia Santel, Dorothy & Aloys Wesselmann, Vera & William Athmer and Joe Middendorff. Mrs. Santel was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Damian Parish and Altar Sodality in Damiansville. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2009 at St. Damian Catholic Church in Damiansville with Msgr. Donald Eichenseer officiating. Interment will follow at St. Damian Cemetery in Damiansville. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2009 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be received at the funeral home.
