Kenneth L. Schanuel, 63, of Aviston, died Monday, June 28, 2010 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese. He was born July 15, 1946 in Belleville, son of Louis and Catherine (Ewald) Schanuel. He married Linda Cooper on October 23, 1982 in Belleville and she survives in Aviston. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Brian (Karen) Schanuel of Wright City, MO and Greg (Jessica) Schanuel of Warrenton, MO; five grandchildren, Emily Schanuel, Katie Schanuel, Abby Schanuel, Brendan Schanuel, and Hailey Schanuel; a brother, Lee (Marge) Schanuel of Belleville; his mother-in-law, Vonda Toombs of Glens Ferry, ID; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Willie Southern of Mantua, UT, Margaret Cooper of Mustang, OK, and Susan & Darrell Brower of Oklahoma City, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Norma Schanuel; a brother-in-law, Alan Cooper; and a sister-in-law, Carol Southern. Mr. Schanuel worked as a gas fitter for Illinois Power/Ameren UE. He was a member of the Pipefitters Union, and treasurer of the “MSLQMRA” Racing Association. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 2, 2010 at St. Francis Church in Aviston with Rev. Dan Friedman officiating. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Aviston. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, July 1, 2010 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2010 at Hempen Funeral Home in Aviston. There will be a prayer service at 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Foundation and will be received at the funeral home.
