Harry J. Schomaker, 72, of Brussels, IL, formerly of Aviston, IL, died Friday, September 16, 2005 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was born November 13, 1932 in Damiansville, IL, son of Martin and Jacobina (Kalmer) Schomaker. He is survived by one brother, Edwin Schomaker and wife Frieda of New Baden, IL; two sisters, Ella Rensing and husband Elmer of New Baden, IL and Bertha Wessling and husband Art of Germantown, IL; his aunt, Teresa Schomaker of St. Louis, MO and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, one brother, Norbert Schomaker; one sister, Lorene Rensing and a brother-in-law, Herman Rensing preceded him in death. Mr. Schomaker was a carpenter. He was a veteran of the United Sates Army and was a military police officer during the Korean War. He was a member of and also held many offices in the American Legion Post 1239, Aviston, IL. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2005 at St. Francis Church in Aviston, IL, with the Rev. Dan Friedman officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at St. Francis Cemetery, Aviston, IL. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 18, 2005 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2005 at Hempen Funeral Home, Aviston, IL. There will be a prayer service at 4 p.m. and an American Legion visit at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to masses and will be received at the funeral home.
