Elizabeth J. Schroeder, 95, of the Villas of St. James in Breese and formerly of Aviston, died Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at Aviston Countryside Manor following a short illness. She was born July 13, 1912 in Aviston, the daughter of Ben and Mary T. (Fuhler) Hilmes. On September 18, 1934 she married Bart F. Schroeder at St. Anthony’s Church in Beckemeyer, and he preceded her in death on July 17, 1980. Survivors include one daughter, Evelyn (Rich) Goestenkors of Carlyle; six grandchildren, Cathie (David) Schroeder, Lynn (Jerry) Detmer, Jackie (Don) Reeves, Rick (Cindy) Goestenkors and Steve (Lisa) Goestenkors, all of Aviston, and Donna (Randall) Kruep of Los Altos Hills, CA; 13 great-grandchildren, Jared (Lisa) Schroeder, Elizabeth Schroeder, Andrew, Julia and Christian Kruep, Chris (Megan) Detmer, Ken Detmer, Jacob, Lindsey, Justin, Sara, Anna and Brett Goestenkors; four great-great-grandchildren, Lacey Schroeder, Corrine, Eyan and Kylie Detmer; two sisters, Celia Kreke of Beaver Prairie and Clare Mann of Moberly, MO; a sister-in-law, Betty Kannal of Highland and a brother-in-law, Arnold Schroeder of Aviston. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ed and John, and a sister, Rose. Elizabeth was a homemaker. She was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and Ladies Sodality in Aviston. She was a charter member of the American Legion Post 1239 Auxiliary in Aviston, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3523 Auxiliary in Carlyle, and the St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary in Breese where she did quilt top embroidery work. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2007, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston with Rev. Dan Friedman officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Francis Cemetery, Aviston. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, November 9, 2007 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at the Hempen Funeral Home in Aviston. Memorials may be made to Clinton County Relay For Life, the American Red Cross or the St. Francis Church improvement fund and will be received at the funeral home.
