Shirley Ann Chasteen

May 23, 1932 — June 6, 2020

Shirley Ann Chasteen, age 88, of Kewanee, IL went home to be with our Lord on Saturday, June 6, 2020 surrounded by her family in Keyesport, IL .

She was the first daughter of Charles Leon and Helen Marie (Davis) Autery. She was born May 23, 1932 at home in Alton, IL and moved to Kewanee, IL in 1942. She graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1949.

She married the love of her life, George Willard Chasteen of Sheffield, IL on October 5, 1952 and he preceded her in death on July 11, 2005. They have two sons: Michall David Chasteen and wife Teresa of Keyesport, and Randall James Chasteen and wife Deb of Phoenix, Arizona; twelve grandchildren: Amanda (Josh Kmucha) Holstien, Kenyon Dean Holstien, April (Dave) Crumbey, Stephanie (Jeff) Blain, Jay (Amber Frey) Rines, Mariah (Bobby Dreesons) Rines, Brittany (Jon Bare) Chasteen, Taliesea Chasteen, Jason Hatcher, Alexander Garner Chsteen, Amanda Horton; two sisters-in-law: Lela Heene and Eileen Heene both of Kewanee; thirty-five great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Roy Leon Autery and his wife Gale; two brother-in-law: Marshall Heene and Julian Heene.

Shirley was a long time member of the Illinois Association for Children with Learning Disabilities, helping children to get a proper education and the equipment to further themselves. Shirley was an officer in the Henry County Genealogy Association. She loved studying and researching her “dead people” as she put it. She wrote and published her book on Autery, LaBrash, Davis, Howard, Chasteen, Fellows, and Heene families.

Shirley and George loved dancing especially to Johnny Kaye Orchestra at the Hub in Edelstein, IL. Most of all she loved all of her family and will be missed.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorials made in memory of Shirley are suggested to the Chasteen family and will be received at Nordike Funeral Home, 740 Fairfax Street, Carlyle, IL 62231.
