Marie A. Singler-Povolish, 86, of New Baden, died Sunday, December 8, 2013 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese. She was born December 20, 1926 in Sugar Creek Twp. Clinton County, IL, daughter of George and Catherine (Wellen) Timmermann. She married Elmer Henry Singler on October 30, 1946 in Germantown and he preceded her in death on December 22, 1988. She then married Paul Povolish on September 12, 1992 in Damiansville and he preceded her in death on March 15, 2002. She is survived by a son, Ronald (Cindy) Singler of New Baden; three daughters, Donna (Tom) LaCaze and Judy (Bill) Hemann all of New Baden, and Gwen (Mic) Middleton of New Athens; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Esther Brady of Ottawa, KS, Katie Siegmann of Aviston, Delores (George) Glover of Napa Valley, CA, and Edna (Mike) Banco of Great Falls, MT.; two brothers, David (Mary Jane) Timmermann of Germantown, and Walter (Lucy) Timmermann of Calabash, NC.; and sisters-in-law, Marie Timmermann of Breese, Marilyn Timmermann of Phoenix, AZ, Julie Timmermann of Trenton, and Lynn Timmermann of VA. In addition to her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Judy Singler; four brothers, George, Erbin, Paul and Ray Timmermann; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kay Timmermann, Ray Brady, and Robert & Leona Singler. Mrs. Povolish was owner/operator of Singler’s Tavern & Fine Foods in Damiansville for 35 years. She was a member of St. Damian Parish and Ladies Sodality in Damiansville and the American Legion Post 321 Auxiliary in New Baden; an honorary member of the Clinton County Licensed Beverage Association; a former member of St. Ann Parish in Nashville and the New Baden Senior Citizens & Senior Band. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Gene Neff officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2013 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. The New Baden American Legion Auxiliary will visit at 7 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Clinton Manor Activity Fund and will be received at the funeral home.
