Sinkey, Stephen

Stephen A. Sinkey, 49, of New Baden, Ill. died on Saturday, May 7, 2005 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville, Ill. Mr. Sinkey was born on December 14, 1955, son of Thomas Franklin & Evalee Elizabeth (Walker) Sinkey. He married Kathleen D. Watts on April 26, 1974, in Mesquite, TX and she survives. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a son, Stephen Sinkey and wife Amanda of New Baden, Ill.; two daughters, Angela Sinkey of New Baden and her special friend, Jeff Korte and Erin Korte of New Baden, Ill; a grandson, Trevor Korte; brothers and sisters, Helen Weaver and husband Jerry of Duncanville, TX, William Sinkey and wife Betsy of Arlington, TX, Christie Harris of Dallas, TX, and Joyce Finch of Dallas, TX; Father-in-law & mother-in-law, Frank & Laverne Watts of New Baden, Ill; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Colleen & Keith Jermyn of Carrolton, TX and Frank & Christina Watts of Corpus Christi, TX. He was preceded in death by his father, father-in-law, “Nick” Nichols, two sisters, Dorothy Brackney & Lillian Colombrito; one brother, Thomas Sinkey. Mr. Sinkey was a former Cub master Pack 34, New Baden; former Scoutmaster of Troop 34, New Baden; and a member of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Alumni Association; with his wife, he was involved at Zion United Church of Christ. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force, serving for 20 years, from May, 1974 until October, 1994. He retired as a Master Sergeant. After he retired from the air force, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in computer programming from SIUE in 1999. He was currently working at the 805th CSPTS (Computer Support Squadron) at Scott Air Force Base. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at Zion United Church of Christ in New Baden, Ill. with the Rev. Gretchen Sterrett officiating. Interment will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in New Baden. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2005 and Tuesday, May 10, from 9 until 9:30 a.m. at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden, Ill. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Zion United Church of Christ and will be received at the funeral home.
