Marie H. Spihlmann, 88, of Albers, died Tuesday, August 28, 2007, at Countryside Manor in Aviston. She was born October 24, 1918 in Germantown daughter of Herman and Anna (Schleper) Pingsterhaus. She married Bernard W. "Barney" Spihlmann on November 14, 1945 in Germantown and he preceded her in death on January 21, 2007. She is survived by a son, Alfred Spihlmann and wife Darlene of Damiansville; two daughters, Marcella Markus and husband Larry of Aviston and Marilyn Hecker and husband Hans of St. Louis, MO; nine grandchildren, Debra Becker and husband Kurt, Jeff Spihlmann and wife Jill, Jason Spihlmann, Rebecca Nordike and husband Keith, Kristi Toennies and husband John, Adam Markus and wife Amber, Craig Markus, Jason Hecker and Adam Hecker and fiancée Kelly; five great-grandchildren, Devon Becker, Seth Becker, Breanne Burton, Kaitlyn Burton and Connor Toennies; one sister, Christine Beckmann of Germantown; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Laura Pingsterhaus, Henrietta and Abbie Albers and Ann Spihlmann, all of Germantown, Dorothy Wiemann of Maryville, Marie Albers of Breese, and Rose Spihlmann of Damiansville; step brothers-in-law and step sisters-in-law, Walter Thoele of New Baden, Jane Thoele, Mary Ann and Arnie Heimann and Bernice and Cornelius Kniepman all of Germantown. In addition to her husband and her parents she was preceded in death by two infant sons, Vincent and Robert and two infant daughters, Regina and Mary; one sister, Catherine M. "Katie" Jansen and one brother, Victor Pingsterhaus; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Frank Beckmann, Albert J. Jansen, Norbert Albers, Jim Wiemann, Raymond Spihlmann, Richard Spihlmann, Emelia and George Heimann, Leo and Lucille Spihlmann, and Clarence Spihlmann; step brothers-in-law and step sisters-in-law, Edward Thoele, Ella Mae Thoele and Alvin and Mary Ann Thoele. Mrs. Spihlmann was a homemaker and enjoyed making quilts. She was a member of St. Bernard Parish and Alter Sodality in Albers, the American Legion Post 1026 Auxiliary in Albers and was a volunteer quilter for St. Joseph Hospital in Breese. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 1, 2007 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Albers with Msgr. Donald Eichenseer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Albers. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, August 31, 2007and from 9 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 1, 2007 at Hempen Funeral Home in Aviston. Memorials may be made to St. Bernard Church or to the donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home.
