Stanley “Butch” Richter, 89, of Aviston, died Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Legacy Place in Breese. He was born May 2, 1928 in Aviston, the son of Henry and Cecelia, nee Huene, Richter. He married Mary Francis Duing November 1954 in Trenton and she preceded him in death in 1972. He then married Pauline, nee Hustedde, Holtgrave August 10, 1973 in Germantown and she survives in Aviston.
In addition to his second wife, Butch is survived by his children, Brian (Linda) Richter and Bruce (Missie) Richter all of Aviston, Peggy (Paul) Martin of Fairview Heights, Tom (Gu Yan) Holtgrave of Huntington Beach, CA., Nancy (Rick) Kraeger of Germantown, Bonnie Strieker of Breese, Gary (Kathi) Holtgrave and Cheryl (Dale) McKee all of Highland; 19 grandchildren, Brandon (special friend, Jen) Richter, Curtis, Alex, and Dylan Richter, Karlie (special friend, Cody) Richter, Shaun (special friend, Kelsey) Moore, Marissa (Adam) Banducci, Vanessa Holtgrave, Raechel (Richard) Strong, Eric (Kelly) Kraeger, Shelly (Ryan) Kohrmann, Aften (Kyle) Zurliene, Austin (Kristen) Strieker, Ariel (fiancé, Brett) Strieker, Jordan (Courtney) Holtgrave, Ashleigh (Grant) Jones, Cameron McKee, Caleb (Michaela) McKee, and Cierra (special friend, Daryn) McKee; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jim (Dolores) Richter of St. Rose, and Donald (Ruth) Richter of Highland; two sisters, Joanne (Jerome) Rehkemper of St. Rose, and Babe (John) Cotton of Clay City; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Betty Richter and Margie Richter both of Aviston, LuAnn Venhaus of Affton, MO, Corine Duft of Highland, Carol & Jim Matthews of St. Louis, MO, Darlene & Mert Clayton of St. Charles, MO, Annie Duing of Trenton, Paul & special friend Linda Hustedde of Aviston, and Jo Ann Eversgerd of Litchfield.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Clifford Richter in infancy; a son-in-law, Earl Strieker; two brothers, Cornelius “Dick” Richter and Tom “Pat” Richter; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Don Venhaus, Jerry Duft, David Duing, Leroy & Dorothy Hustedde, Raymond & Alvina Hustedde, Jerome Hustedde, Shirley Hustedde, and Wilbert Eversgerd.
Mr. Richter was a farmer, a salesman and load dispatcher for Wickes Lumber, a truck driver for Wilke Trucking, and a concrete driver for Quad County Ready Mix. He was a member of St. Francis Parish where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, the Knights of Columbus Council 11110, Clinton County Farm Bureau, Aviston Bib Club, Teamsters Local 50, and a past member of Little Egypt Pork Producers.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 23, 2017 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston with Rev. Dan Friedman officiating. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Aviston.
Friends may call from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday, October 22, 2017 and again on Monday, October 23, 2017 from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at Nordike Funeral Home in Aviston. There will be a prayer service at 12 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Francis Parish, Knights of Columbus Council 11110, Aviston American Legion Post 1239, or Mater Dei High School and will be received at the funeral home.
