Stephen A. Kolmer

Stephen A. Kolmer, 65, of New Baden, IL, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. He was born March 22, 1959, in St. Louis, the son of Allen and Jan, nee Logan, Kolmer. He married Nancy Mueller on May 02, 1987, in New Baden. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother Jim Kolmer of New Baden; sisters-in-law Donna (Dave) Hamburg of New Orleans, LA and Laurie (Jay) Eihausen of Breese, IL; nephews Chad Kolmer of Sommerville, SC and Wesley Hamburg of New Orleans, LA; and niece Hannah Kolmer of St. Louis. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jan and Allen Kolmer, mother-in-law and father-in-law Rosie (Zimmermann) and Ralph Mueller, and brother, Dave Kolmer.

Steve was one of the hardest workers you would ever meet. No matter what he put his mind to, he loved the challenge and was proud that he didn't need anyone's help. He grew up moving around the world as his dad was in the military. Experiencing different cultures and meeting so many people, moving here and there, helped to shape who he was. Steve always had a good memory and could best recall stories from past times with his family and friends. He graduated high school in Wiesbaden, Germany. His love of cars during high school led him to attend Bailey Tech in St. Louis to pursue auto mechanics.

While working at his first job, they offered him an opportunity to take on auto-body work, which became his work life's dedication. Over the years, Steve worked for several car dealerships in Mascoutah and eventually landed at Mike Bach Auto Body in Belleville. He thoroughly loved the work he did, and it showed in the final product. He loved bass fishing and was a member of the Tri-County Bass Anglers, target shooting and building and flying RC model planes and helicopters. 

The family would like to thank the teams at BJC Memorial East Hospital, the Siteman Cancer Center, and the Hospice team for the care and unwavering support they have provided over the years. 

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 25, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, November 25, 2024, at Nordike Funeral Home New Baden. The burial will follow at St. George Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden.
