Strake, Victor

Victor F. Strake, 86, of Breese, died Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at his home. He was born March 17, 1921 in Breese, son of Anton and Mary (Haar) Strake. He married Lorraine H. Peek September 17, 1946 in Aviston and she survives in Breese. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, James Strake and wife Bonita of St. Charles, MO, Ronald Strake and wife Laura, Steve Strake and wife Mary and Kevin Strake and wife Andrea all of Breese; five grandchildren, Matthew Strake, Jennifer Creek and husband Matthew, Ryan Strake and wife Dawn, Jason Strake and special friend Ashley Hempen and Brandon Strake and special friend Lindsey Pakosta; four great-grandchildren, Kendra Strake, Aliegha Creek, Grant Creek and Ava Strake; one sister, Marcella Stuever of Breese; two sisters-in-law, Marcella Ortmann and Dolores Peek of Aviston; he is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ray Strake and Tom Strake; four sisters, Leona Mondt, Henrietta Gorchock, Florence Pschorr and Agnes Strake; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ben and Catherine Peek; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Fred Stuever, Virginia Strake, Al Mondt, John Gorchock, Ken Pschorr, Mary Ann Strake, Adelle and Bill DeLong, Paul Peek, Ruth and Daniel Simonoff and Victor Peek. Mr. Strake was a coal miner and he was a sheet metal worker with Strake Metal Works since 1955. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Middle East during WWII. He was a member of St. Augustine Parish and Men’s Sodality and the American Legion Post 252 in Breese. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 15, 2007 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese with Rev. Chuck Tuttle officiating. Interment will follow at St. Dominic/St. Augustine Cemetery in Breese. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday, December 14, 2007 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Saturday, December 15, 2007 at Hempen Funeral Home in Breese. The American Legion will visit the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Friday evening. Memorials may be made to Family Hospice of Belleville Area, Clinton County Relay For Life or to St. Augustine Parish and will be received at the funeral home.
