Suda Shade of Carlyle died Sunday, July 20, 2008 at the Carlyle Healthcare Center at the age of 99 years. She was born in Carlyle on February 24, 1909. The daughter of Lloyd and Emma (Brown) Shade.Miss Shade is survived by a sister: Jacque Briggs of Russellville, Arkansas; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Pauline Shade and and Riley Pike both of California; nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and great nephews.
Local nieces include Virginia (Bill) Huusko and Helen Kohrmann of Carlyle. Suda was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Vivian Apple, Virginia (Cletus) Mueller, Aliene (Alex) Taphorn, Mary Janice Pike; and brothers: Lloyd Lee Shade and Lytle Shade.Suda received her Bachelors Degree from Arkansas Teachers College, now known as Northeast Arkansas State University. Her first teaching position was in a 1 room school house in Danville, Arkansas. She came to the Carlyle area in the 1930's and taught in Little Prairie, Beckemeyer Grade School and Prairie View School near Boulder, where she retired after 40 years of dedicated teaching.
Suda was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carlyle and the Illinois Retired Teachers AssociationFuneral services will be Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle with Rev. Keith Michaels officiating. The interment will follow at Carlyle Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family at the Frerker Funeral Home on Saturday from 9 to 11:00 A.M.Expressions of sympathy may be made in Suda’s memory to the First United Methodist Church, the Alzheimer’s Association or to the charity of the donor’s choice and those will be received at the Frerker Funeral Home which is serving the family.
