Tom Szczeblewski of Beckemeyer died Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese at the age of 60 years. Tom was born in Murphysboro, Illinois on July 15, 1953, the son of Carl "Jim" and Rose (Schneider) Szczeblewski. He married Linda Johnson in Carlyle on November 5, 1977, and she survives in Beckemeyer.
Tom is survived by his wife; children: Amy Thompson and husband Jason, Eric Szczeblewski and special friend Jane Mulligan, and Tyler Szczeblewski and special friend Kari Dorries all of Beckemeyer; grandchildren: Zack and Caleb Szczeblewski and Callie and Kendric Thompson; sisters: Bernadette (Gary) Lowe of Carlyle, Penelope (Roy) Grayling of Beckemeyer, Joyce (Craig) Huelsmann of St. Rose, Carla (Mike) Sanders of Keyesport, Cecilia (Taron) Smith of Indiana, Lucy (Mark)Zartman of Bartelso, Rita (Karen) Szczeblewski of Virginia, Cynthia (Shaun) Will of Makanda, Sandra (Joseph) Koch of Alhambra, Rhonda (Ron Becker) Fehrmann of St. Rose and Kathryn (Roy Bradford) Szczeblewski of Centralia; brothers: Ernest Szczeblewski of Georgia, Guy (Nettie) Szczeblewski of Kentucky. Jay (Dana) Szczeblewski of Carlyle and Clay (Tracy) Szczeblewski of Beckemeyer.
Tom served the the United States Army during the Viet Nam Conflict, retired from the Department of Corrections and owned the Main Street Saloon in Beckemeyer. He was a member of the Holthaus-Kampwerth American Legion Post 1227 in Beckemeyer and the Clinton County Licensed Beverage Association (CCLBA).
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle with Rev. Keith Michaels officiating. The interment will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery in Beckemeyer with Military Services provided by the Holthaus-Kampwerth American Legion Post 1227 Honors Squad.
Friends may visit with the family at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle on Friday from 4 to 8:00 P.M. and on Saturday from 8:00 A.M. until the time of services.
For those wishing to honor Tom with a memorial, the family suggests memorials to the charity of the donor’s choice and those will be received at the Frerker Funeral Home which is serving the family.
