Dorothy E. Toeben, 100, of New Baden, died Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Aviston Countryside Manor. She was born June 17, 1912 in St. Louis, MO, daughter of Roy and Anne (Schuette) Harder. She married Ben Toeben on February 7, 1934 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden and he preceded her in death on September 21, 1956. She then married Ted Toeben on August 10, 1963 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden and he preceded her in death on February 22, 1987. She is survived by her children, Mary Ann Poettker of Robinson, Ruth (Clarence) Price of Vandalia, Theresia Herzing and Betsy (Myron) Mugele all of New Baden, Pat (Floyd) Sudholt and Ben (Joan) Toeben all of Aviston, Jean (Ron) Gori of Clayton, MO, and Kathy (John) Lloyd of Anna; 37 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; 31 great-great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, James “Chip” Haag of Breese; and a brother, George Johnson of Carlyle.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Judy Haag; a grandson, Patrick Mugele; a great-granddaughter, Sadie Haag; son-in-laws, Jim Poettker, Ray Herzing, and Steve Richards; her step-father, John Johnson; sisters and brothers, Dora & Martin Eilering, Lena & Ben Athmer, Martin & Rose Johnson, John Johnson, Martha & Ted Elling, Elizabeth & Alex Huelskamp; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Anne & Henry Rakers, Rose & John Wellen, Lambert & Emma Fehlker, & Carrie & Frank Eilermann.
Mrs. Toeben was a homemaker and a member of St. George Parish.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Eugene Neff officiating. Burial will follow at St. George Cemetery in New Baden.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2012 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. There will be a prayer service at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Masses, Day Star Community Program in Cairo, IL or to Donor’s Choice and will be received at the funeral home.
