Edward H. Toennies, 92 of Damiansville, died Sunday, January 10, 2010 at Breese Caring First in Breese. He was born March 27, 1917 in Damiansville, son of Gerhard and Anna (Kuper) Toennies. He is survived by a sister-in-law, Margaret Toennies of Belleville; and nieces and nephews, Jim & Kaye Toennies, Dale & LuAnn Toennies, Doris & Harold McDonald, Joan & Larry Handley, Don & Agnes Gebhart, Marilyn Glasscock, and Gary & Jeanne Gebhart. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Otto Toennies, William Toennies and George Toennies; three sisters, Mary Ann Toennies, Marcella Gebhart and Agnes Toennies and a brother-in-law, Joseph Gebhart. Mr. Toennies was a retired farmer and a member of St. Damian Parish and Holy Name in Damiansville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing his guitar. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at St. Damian Catholic Church in Damiansville with Msgr. Donald Eichenseer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Damian Cemetery in Damiansville. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2010 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at Hempen Funeral Home in Albers. Memorials may be made to St. Damian’s Parish and will be received at the funeral home.
