Mark Toennies, 48, of Damiansville, died Sunday, November 28, 2010 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese. He was born August 29, 1962 in Breese, son of Alfred and Patricia (Wilken) Toennies and they survive in Damiansville. In addition to his parents, he is survived by three sisters, Ellen (Richard) Crain of Caseyville, Kathy (Chris) Condellire of Columbia, and Beth (Dave) Stites of Waterloo; a sister-in-law, Teresa "Terry" (Marvin) Linton of Carlyle; seven nephews, Heath (Sarah) Toennies and their son James, Toby (Mallory) Toennies, Brian Crain, Daniel Crain, Brent Crain, Jordan Stites, and Ryan Stites. He is also survived by numerous aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by a brother, Randy Toennies; a sister, Karen Toennies; and his grandparents, Bert and Mary Toennies and Henry and Frances Wilken. Mr. Toennies was co-owner of Toennies Service Company and was a member of St. Damian Parish in Damiansville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and boating. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at St. Damian Church in Damiansville with Msgr. Donald Eichenseer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Damian Cemetery in Damiansville. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2010 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) or St. Damian Parish Building Fund or Mater Dei High School and will be received at the funeral home.
