Cletus F. Tonnies, 80, of New Baden, died Friday, November 10, 2006 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese. He was born February 26, 1926 in Lookingglass Twp., Clinton County, Illinois son of William and Elizabeth (Rensing) Tonnies. He is survived by one brother, Lawrence Tonnies and wife Vera of Trenton; five sisters, Eleanor Wiegman of Carlyle, Elvera Trame of Bartelso, Lorene Koopman and husband Roman of Belleville, Marilyn Mueller of Belleville, and Dolores Hocher of O’Fallon; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Norbert Tonnies and three brothers-in-law, Al "Shorty" Wiegman, Ed "Pete" Trame and Phillip C. Hocher. Mr. Tonnies was a farmer. He was a veteran of the United States Army with the Occupation Forces in Germany in WWII. He was a member of St. George Parish and the Clinton County Farm Bureau. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, November 13, 2006 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Eugene Neff officiating. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden. Memorials may be made to St. George Parish or for Masses and will be received at the funeral home. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, November 12, 2006 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Monday, November 13, 2006 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. There will be a prayer service at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
